Wine shops put the bottle selection first and often have staff who can match a bottle to a meal or a budget. They differ from a general liquor store mainly in how deep the wine shelves go. Every liquor store here has wine shop in its name or category, or names it on its own website.

Tip. Tell the staff what you are cooking or the taste you like rather than a price alone; wine shop clerks usually pick well from that.

Good to know
Is a wine shop pricier than a liquor store?
Not necessarily. A wine shop may stock small producers that cost more, but most also carry affordable everyday bottles, so ask for a price range.
Can I ask for a recommendation?
Yes, and most wine shops expect it. Say what you will eat or drink it with and how much you want to spend.
